Pike Place Market was founded in 1907 as a farmers market, selling fresh meat, fish and produce. But since its humble beginnings, it has expanded and grown, and is now home to amazing eateries, craft shops and it was even the birthplace of Starbucks. Here are a few eats that you need to try....

1. Piroshky Piroshky
This Russian bakery is a Seattle institution. The original was founded in 1992 in Pike Place Market and is still there but there are now an additional four locations across the city. This little Russian bakery in full of delicious baked goods, from traditional beef and onion piroshkies to cinnamon and cardamon plaits. You have to grab a piroshki (a Russian bun with a filling, usually meat) and their garlic and cheddar twist is also delicious.
2. Pike Place Chowder
Being on the Pacific Ocean, Seattle's fishermen have access to some of the greatest fishing spots in world especially for salmon and crabs. Whilst there are an abundance of places to try delicious seafood, for us Pike Place Chowder was the place to be. Super affordable and delicious comfort food for a winter's day, you just can't beat their award winning, selection of chowders and bisques. Our favourite was the seafood bisque; made with a tomato based soup, with delicious salmon, cod and succulent prawns.
3. The Original Starbucks
Not strictly food, but you just have to come here when at Pike Place Market. Starbucks is the biggest coffee chain in the world and it all started right here in Seattle and its original shop is a place of pilgrim for coffee lovers. Whilst there may be a queue outside, it is still a cool spot to visit, have a cup of coffee, browse their vintage collectibles and marvel at the original Starbucks mermaid, which is a lot less defined than what you see on the iconic cups today.
4. Beechers
This might be cheese heaven! There is a deli counter with countless of Beechers' delicious cheeses, an eatery serving up decadent cheesy delights, and you can also see the cheese being made right in front of you. We would recommend grabbing their incredible mac and cheese, and eating it while you watch their amazing staff churn their signature cheese. Then grab some more cheese to take home for later.

5. Joe Chocolate Co.
Coffee and chocolate are always a great flavour combination and Joe Chocolate Co. celebrates that. They serve the most amazing mochas and hot chocolates and they also make lovely espresso chocolate right there in the shop; in lots of flavours like peppermint, salted caramel and honey almond.
6. Pike's Place Barbque
America is the home of Barbecue and Pike Place Market has a great place for meat lovers; Pike's Pit Barbecue serves up lots of classics like ribs, pulled pork and brisket. Get a seat at their prime people watching counter in the middle of the market, grab one of their delicious BBQ sandwiches and watch the hustle and bustle of the market go by. Their food is no-nonsense and the meat is super juicy and succulent and will satisfy any BBQ lover.
